This opening scene doesn't show the main credits at the beginning of the movie to present the idea of secrecy and hiding towards the audience. No credits are used at the beginning of this Thriller apart from the title, which is written in blood to scare and shock the audience. The two words are written in blood to show that this film will be mysterious and creative but also gory and murderous.
A small amount of dialogue is used in this clip, with only a few words being conversed. This sugests the lack of emotion between the two characters at the beginning of this clip. There is no proper music for the audience to properly hear until the girl puts a CD into the CD Player and begins to play loud music which also had a tense dramatic feel to it. This makes the audience more anxious as they can hear the music instead of being able to hear in case the serial killer is near her. This is when this incidental music fades out which is when the audience realises that this girl is about to get murdered which leaves the audience on 'the edge of their seat'. This causes uncertainty. Non-diegetic music is added to this clip as there are wind chimes creating a noise from outside of the house but the sound is exaggerated to create a tense and nervous atmosphere. One of the last sounds we hear in the clip is the scream of the man before he is about to get murdered by the person in the animal mask.

The
camera angles in this clip vary a lot but there are main ones that are
used frequently within it. For example, there is the muderers POV as
they watch their first 'victim' through the window. This easily presents
the young girl to be very unaware and almost innocent compared to this
murderer who is supposedly watching her. A close up of a few objects
within this opening scene are shown, such as the wind chimes, her ice
being put into the glass, the orange juice slowly being poured into it,
her feet as she leaves the bed. These all present the idea of tension as
it is close upbwhich could be a simple metaphor for the idea of tw
murderer being close and ready to kill her. This is a negative
connotation of the film as it can worry and scare the audience watching
it as it easily builds up suspension and tension. An over the shoulder
shot is used when the girl is looking in the mirror then the light
flickers on, which causes her to turn around which makes the audience
very nervous as they would all be very uncomfortable in her situation.
The
mise-en-scene in this clip vary often. For example, the lighting
changes throughout the whole opening scene as it is darker when it is
outside to connotate that the bad things/people are outside. Most of
this low key lighing is used for tension. Masks are shown on the
murderers faces to keep them disguised and give the audience a fear due
to not being able to identify them.
All
of the transitions between each shot are simple and arent used to
confuse the audience. This makes the audience feel more tense as each
shot is cut to another quickly instead of using confusing and blurry
transitions to take their focus away from the scary and nervous
atmosphere of the film.
